All of eastern Washington and much of northeastern Oregon is under an Air Quality Alert put in place by the Washington State Department of Ecology. Rob Rodger with the Benton Clean Air Agency says many areas including Moses Lake, the Tri-Cities and Yakima sit at an "Very Unhealthy level," which the health department recommends people limit their time outdoors.

Below is a list of what has been impacted by the smokey air conditions:

Schools:

Christ the King Religious Education : Due to hazardous air quality, Christ the King students will remain indoors (no outside recess) until conditions improve.

Dayton School District: TUESDAY Aug. 5th, officials are monitoring the air quality index and if it is unhealthy, kids will not go outside. If as a parent you have any specific concerns please contact the building office or your child's teacher for more information. At this time athletic teams who play outside will still practice.

Kennewick School District: TUESDAY Aug. 5, All middle and high school athletic competitions scheduled for outside are canceled today. High Schools Practices - Athletic practices will occur as scheduled inside. Middle School Practices - Due to facility limitations, some middle school practices will be canceled and some will be moved inside. Please contact your specific school for more information.  All students were kept indoors during recess, physical education classes, and lunch.

Kiona-Benton City School District: TUESDAY Aug. 5, Middle school sports- Girls soccer, cancelled; Football will practice inside until 4 and volleyball will run as scheduled. All Schools- Students will remain inside for recess and P.E. classes today due to the smoke. High School Sports Update, 9/5/17: JV Football – Cancelled today and rescheduled to try and play tomorrow depending on air quality. Girls Soccer – Cancelled today – Will look to find a date to reschedule. Volleyball Jamboree @ Granger – Still a go

Pasco School District: TUESDAY Aug. 5th, officials have decided to keep all students and staff inside for recess, lunch and physical education classes. All outdoor after-school activities and athletic games have also been postponed.

Paterson School District: Housel has canceled sports for today due to the smoke. Kids who normally ride the sports bus will be going home on their normal bus routes. Also all students are being kept inside today for recess and PE time due to the smoke.

Prosser School District: TUESDAY Aug. 5th, Prosser School District will be restricting all outdoor student activities, including recesses, until air quality improves. Housel Middle School practices have been canceled today. Prosser High School practices will be held indoors. Prosser High School games scheduled for today, September 5th, 2017 have been canceled and rescheduled.

Richland School District: TUESDAY Aug. 5th, RSD students will be kept inside during recess and P.E. classes today due to the smoke. Outdoor sports practices and competitions have also been canceled.

Other:

Kittitas County Temporary Shelter: TUESDAY Aug. 5th, Residents who are having difficulty escaping the poor air quality, especially those who do not have access to air conditioning during the hot weather, may use the Red Cross shelter located at the Putnam Centennial Center in Cle Elum at 719 E 3rd Street.

Pasco Farmers Market: Due to the unhealthy air quality in the Tri-Cities, tomorrow’s Farmer’s Market scheduled for Wednesday September 6th is cancelled.
