Police say a Kennewick man is behind bars after running from a Hermiston officer and causing a crash, hurting another driver.

Officers say the 31-year-old was stopped by police Thursday morning, but as soon as the officer got out of his car, the driver took off. As he was driving away on W. Highland and S. 1st Street, the driver hit a stop sign before slamming into another car.

He than jumped out of the car and took off running, but police caught up to him. David Bjurlin now faces  charges of attempted elude (Vehicle), attempt elude (Foot), felony fail to Perform the duties of a driver, assault III, reckless driving and driving with no operators license.

The other driver was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.
