38 dogs and two chickens will be up for adoption at the Yakima Humane Society in a few days after being rescued from a hoarding situation in Union Gap.

Shelter Manager Patsy Dye says police were called to the area for an unrelated matter when they found the motorhome filled with animals.

"Large bags of dog food [were] inside, so they weren't going hungry, they were just extremely filthy, stinky, smelling, you know they were sleeping eating living in fecal matter," says Dye.

Dye says because the situation on Friday was impossible to sort out at the owners home, the motorhome was towed to the humane society so they could pull the animals out, count them and give them baths. Dye says the majority are small breeds, anything from Chihuahua to Dachshund mixes. One dog did have two puppies, one which had to be put down, the other may have to have its legs splinted because Dye says in these situations the pups often don't learn how to walk.

Dye says the dog's owner was there when police towed the motor home away, she could not say if the owners actually lived in the trailer or not.

If anyone is interested in donations or adopting, you can reach out to the shelter directly. She says the best way to adopt a dog is to come down to the shelter directly, they hope to make them available to the community for 10 days before looking at transferring some of the dogs to their shelter partners.
