OLYMPIA, Wash.- As more vaccines are made available to Washingtonians in more essential occupations, one State Senator wants to see some coordination, targeting one specific group of people.

"I'm calling on Governor Inslee to designate February 1st as a statewide school employee vaccination day, and to allow local providers to coordinate access for any school employee who wishes to get vaccinated", says Sen. Brad Hawkins (R-East Wenatchee).

It's an effort to not only distribute more of the COVID-19 vaccine, but to help get students back to the classroom.

"I mean, let's not overthink this, let's start planning today", Sen. Hawkins says. "We can set aside two days in February for both doses, and providers can get lists from their school districts, they can ask staff to present identification cards and we can start getting the vaccines in people's arms."

Sen. Hawkins is the ranking member on the Senate Early Learning and K-12 Education Committee.
