(Olympia, WA) -- Governor Jay Inslee is calling for stronger gun control laws following a mass shooting that killed 19 children and two teachers at an elementary school in Texas. Inslee took to Twitter yesterday saying he and his wife Trudi are "devastated with the news of yet another violent tragedy." The governor says American children are "paying the price of the gun lobby's cynical interests." Inslee called on Congress to pass legislation requiring universal background checks along with a ban on high-capacity magazines, ghost guns and bump stocks and liability laws for unsafe gun storage.

Police say the 18-year-old gunman was armed with a rifle and wearing body armor when he entered Robb Elementary School in Uvalde Tuesday and went from classroom to classroom opening fire before being shot and killed by police.
