Virtual volunteers needed for local non-profit organizations
KENNEWICK, Wash. - The Stay Home order in Washington state, requires residents to observe proper social distancing to stop the spread of COVID-19. That means that local non-profit organizations have seen a slump in volunteerism.
United Way of Benton & Franklin Counties has launched Volunteer Tri-Cities, a free, mobile-friendly, community-wide volunteer platform that connects people with the causes they care about. There are many ways for people to help others, even during these times of social distancing, including:
- “Virtual volunteers” who help remotely with projects such as website design, donation coordination, marketing or social media strategies, phone banks to reach out to seniors, etc.
- Direct volunteering that can be conducted while still maintaining physical distancing, such as delivering food and supplies
- Donation collection drives for needed supplies and products
It’s free to sign up. Local nonprofit agencies can register and add opportunities for people to volunteer or donate products. Individuals, families, and businesses can sign up and explore the many ways to get involved. Volunteer Tri-Cities makes it easy to find opportunities to help from your phone or tablet. Our local United Way partners with Bechtel and Amentum for provide this new bi-county resource.
