OLMYPIA, Wash.- A controversial bill that would ban guns on the property of the state capitol during a protest has passed through the House of Representatives- and not everyone is happy about it.

Senator Phil Fortunato says, "It's actually pretty easy to ban guns in the capital all together, because under current state law, it's illegal to carry a firearm in an insane asylum, so if we designate the capitol as an insane asylum, we achieve what this bill is actually trying to do. "

He argues that it would be difficult to actually enforce, saying that it would require someone to get a tape measure and mark 75 feet away from the capitol.

He also says "It turns legal gun owners, once again, into criminals. It seeks to criminalize a legal protest, where someone decides to bring a legal firearm. We are a open carry state!"
