Several New Laws to Take Effect in WA New Year’s Day
(Olympia, WA) -- Washington State has several new laws taking effect on New Year's Day. Single-use plastic utensils at restaurants will be by request only. Convicted felons who have served their time will be allowed to register to vote. Washington's new capital gains tax of seven-percent takes effect. And Washington's long-term care tax goes into effect, although the Governor has delayed collection of the tax from businesses until the Legislature can fix problems with the program. Businesses can still start collecting the tax from employees.
