Nearly a dozen Washington state tribes are receiving federal approval to take wagers for sports gambling. The U.S. Department of the Interior approved sports gambling compact amendments on Wednesday for nine Washington tribes, including the Puyallup, Tulalip, Snoqualmie, Spokane, Cowlitz and Lummi tribes. Betting could begin as early as next week, in time for the opening week of the NFL season.
