WALLA WALLA, Wash.-- A Walla Walla woman faces drug charges after police officers contacted her while investigating a suspected burglary.

Walla Walla Police Officers responded to a report of a possible burglary in the 600 block of Clark Street at about 1:13 Wednesday morning, and noticed a woman sitting in a car nearby.

Officers determined that the woman was violating a no contact order by being there, and asked to see her identification.

While she was getting her ID, an officer spotted a clear bag of possible narcotics in her purse.

Officers took Sofia Ayala, 37, into custody for violating a protection order and applied for a warrant to search her vehicle.

Once the judge approved the warrant, a search of the vehicle and Ayala's purse recovered suspected meth, packaged in small bags for delivery.

Ayala was booked for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a controlled substance other than narcotics.

She's being held at the Walla Walla County Jail on $20,000 bond.
