PASCO, Wash.-- If you're looking for a four-legged companion, the Tri-Cities Animal Shelter is still open and still adopting out pets.

"We're asking everyone to first go on our website, look at the animals, and give us a call when you see one you're interested in," said Director Debbie Sporcich. "We'll set an appointment for you to come take a look at the cat or dog you're interested in, and we'll bring the animal out to the parking lot for you to meet."

Sporcich says there's a challenge is in getting the adopted pets fixed because many veterinarians aren't performing surgeries.

"We are adopting out, we don't want the animals sitting here waiting for a spay and neuter appointment, so we will be working with these new owners to get the dogs and cats back to us to get spayed and neutered once the vets open up again," Sporcich said.

Many of the pets are also being transferred out to other animal adoption agencies that have established foster care programs, since there is limited access to the shelter for volunteers to care for and walk the animals.
