(Seattle, WA) -- Alaska Airlines is temporarily pausing all nonstop flights between Anchorage and Hawaii due to ongoing staffing shortages. The company says the flights will be suspended until November. Alaska Airlines has been forced to cancel hundreds of flights over the past month or so month as pilots protest for better and safer scheduling.

The pilot union’s leaders at Alaska Airlines recently voted to conduct a strike-authorization ballot among their pilots. The strike-authorization ballot will open on May 9 and close on May 25. The two sides are still in mediation, but if passed by the pilots, the vote would authorize union leadership to declare a strike if the group is given permission to do so by the National Mediation Board.
