Some WA, OR lawmakers condem President Trump’s new travel ban

The Trump administration has released a new travel ban after the previous one was challenged in court by Washington state's Attorney General.

The original travel ban caused chaos at airports around the country as officials scrambled to interpret how it was to be implemented and travelers were detained before being sent back overseas or blocked from getting on airplanes abroad. Officials say the revised order is narrower and specifies that the ban does not apply to those who already have valid visas or green cards.

However, some lawmakers are already speaking out against the new ban. Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson said in a statement Monday that President Trump makes one thing clear, "His original travel ban was indefensible — legally, constitutionally and morally." Ferguson went on to add he is reviewing the new Executive Order to determine how it might impact the state.

U.S. Senator Patty Murray of Washington has already condemned the new order saying in a statement, "No matter how many games President Trump plays with the language of this executive order, it is clear that these attempts to slam the door on Muslim immigrants and refugees are un-America." She went on to say she already co-sponsored two bills to block President Trump's ban on refugees, immigrants and visitors.

U.S. Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon said the ban is, "little more than a warmed-over rehash of the original."
