(Oak Harbor, WA) -- An 89-year-old woman could soon be homelessness after a bank error resulted in her home being foreclosed. Chieko Durham's husband took out a reverse mortgage on their house before he went to live in a nursing home to ensure his wife would be financially comfortable. The bank later sent someone to the home to ensure Chieko was still living there after learning her husband moved out, but she didn't answer the door.

At that point, the bank foreclosed on the house and sold it at auction after falsely assuming that she had moved out. The new owner started eviction proceedings but has since temporarily backed off. However, One banker tells KING-5 news that there's no legal basis upon which Chieko can get the foreclosure and sale overturned.
