A man wanted on escape charges was arrested last night in Richland after police say he allegedly stabbed a man, then started a small fire.

Police were called out to a home on the 1600 block of Marshall for a disturbance at around 9:15 last night, where they found a man suffering from several stab wounds.

The suspect Shea Smith had run off on foot, but thanks to several witnesses he was suspected of going into a nearby yard where a suspicious fire had started. The fire was contained to the backyard and is being investigated as a potential arson.

Smith then attempted to hide from police but was found in another backyard. He was arrested and mentally cleared.

He was wanted on a Felony Escape warrant, and will also be charged with assault for the stabbing.

The male who had been stabbed was transported to Kadlec ER by Richland Fire Department and treated for multiple wounds due to the assault. The man was later released.
