(Salem, OR) -- The State of Oregon has paused acceptance of new applications for emergency rental assistance after the Housing and Community Services agency reported that it has allocated all of the $289 million dollars of federal money it received.

Governor Kate Brown recently called a special session for the Oregon Legislature to meet December 13th to consider allocating more local money to continue the program. Brown wants the Legislature to extend eviction protections for renters who have applied for the help, ensure landlords get paid in full for back rent, provide 90-million dollars to cover rents in the winter months, and 100-million dollars to create long-term, locally delivered eviction prevention services.
