(Seattle, WA) -- A new report from a marine conservation group suggests Seattle-based Amazon's plastic packaging waste jumped by almost a third during the pandemic last year. The group Oceana says the online retail giant generated close to 600,000 pounds of plastic packaging waste in 2020, and estimates more than 11,000 tons--including air pillows, bubble wrap, and plastic-lined envelopes--is likely to wind up in the sea.

Amazon rejected the figures and said it overestimated the plastic waste by 300%. However, the company as not yet provided alternative numbers.
