Large fire called in by pilots, destroys several barns near Tri-Cities airport

A large wildfire destroyed several barns and sheds but no homes after it started near the Tri-Cities airport.

Firefighters say they were called to the fire off of N. Rd. 36 and Clark Rd. after several pilots radioed dispatch when they noticed the smoke and flames near the runway.

Crews from Benton Counties District #1 and #4, Walla Walla District #5, and Pasco Fire assisted Franklin County District #3 and were able to contain the flames to a dozen acres.

No homes were damaged, thanks in part to the help of neighbors armed with water hoses and tractors.
