(King County, WA) -- King County is declaring a public health emergency as it approaches a record-breaking number of overdose deaths. Public Health Seattle & King County reports the county is on track to set a new record for fatal drug and alcohol overdoses. If the trend holds, it would be the largest one-year increase in overdose deaths recorded in over a decade.

Health officials add that the rising number of overdose deaths parallels statewide and nationwide trends.
