WA Supreme Court Issues Ruling on Redistricting
(Olympia, WA) -- The Washington State Supreme Court has declined to adopt a new redistricting plan for the state. The order, issuing the decline, was signed by all nine justices. In a press release from the court, the court said it concluded that “the plan adopted by the Washington State Redistricting Commission met the constitutional deadline and substantially complied with the statutory deadline to transmit the matter to the legislature.”
The order also returns the matter to the Washington State Redistricting Commission for whatever work is necessary to transmit the plan to the legislature.
The order states that the court has not evaluated and does not render any opinion on the plan’s compliance with any statutory and constitutional requirements other than the November 15th deadline.
