Two kids, father hurt in fire which destroyed Benton City home
Two children and their father, who rescued them from their burning Benton City mobile home, were all hurt in the fire.
Benton County Fire District 4 Captain Ed Dunbar says the father was outside when he noticed the mobile home off 27722 E. Kennedy Road was on fire. Firefighters say he rush back inside to pull out his girl and boy who are 10 and 7-years-old. The children's mother was also on the property at the time, but she was not hurt.
The two children are now in critical condition and the Benton County Sheriff's office says all three were first rushed to Kadlec and then airlifted to a Seattle hospital.
Firefighters say when they arrived, all four people who lived at the home were outside. They say about half the building was engulfed in flames. Firefighters say there are no hydrants in the county and they had a bit of a water supply issue, but they were able to knock down the flames.
A pickup truck was also destroyed by the fire but crews saved two agriculture sheds on the property, right next to the home.
Benton County deputies say the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
