Kennewick police hit lowest number of arrests during Water Follies
Only one arrest was made over the Tri-Cities Water Follies weekend on both sides of the river.
Kennewick police Sergeant Randy Maynard says that may be the lowest number of criminal arrest or citations ever made during the Thursday to Sunday period.
"During the entire weekend, we made collectively on the Kennewick side almost 1,300 citizen contacts, the great majority of those were social contacts, people coming up to thank us for our service or having questions about something going on," says Maynard.
He says the arrest was on Friday for a 50-year-old man who was trying to enter into Columbia Park to watch the air show. Officers say an investigation confirmed that Erin Jackson had been operating a vehicle while impaired and was arrested for DUI.
Maynard says many of the rest of the calls were medically-related with people drinking too much in the hot weather. He says they had one lost child call on Sunday but they were reunited with their family in about 10 minutes.
"People chose to adhere to the rules this weekend and it was a very positive event, as a result of those people," says Maynard.
Pasco police say the river was quiet and they did not have any arrests.
Washington State Patrol says they made 18 DUI arrest this year over the weekend, which is up from the 16 made last year.
