A party took a terrifying turn in Toppenish early Tuesday morning when deputies say an 18-year-old man fired a shotgun into a crowd of people and sent six to the hospital.

Yakima County deputies believe two girls had gotten into a fight around 3:00 a.m. at a party being held off the 8000 block of Lateral C Rd, in Toppenish. Shortly after the fight, deputies say the 18-year-old man got a shotgun, loaded with birdshot and fired several rounds into a group of people, injuring six of them. Deputies say the injuries range from minor to major, but none are expected to be life threatening at this point.

They say the six victims include two 19-year-old men from Pasco, an 18-year-old man from Pasco, a 22-year-old man from Toppenish, a 25-year-old woman from White Swan and a 21-year-old man from Sunnyside. All six were transported to local hospitals.

Deputies say the 18-year-old took off in a car, which they were able to get a description of from witnesses. Deputies tracked down the car and arrested two people inside, one of them was the 18-year-old suspect. He now faces felony assault charges and drive-by shooting charges.

Yakima County Deputies say the investigation into the case is on-going.
