The daughter of a man who died in a confrontation with Kennewick Police Sunday night spent some time at the scene of the shooting Monday afternoon.

Juliet Whitaker Green says her grandparents told her Monday morning that her father, Gordon Whitaker, had died.

"My grandparents came over. They told me to sit down and they had to tell me something. I was like, what is it, what do you have to tell me? And they said, 'It's about your dad.'"

Green says she had a panic attack as the reality of her father's death sunk in.

Whitaker died Sunday night near the entrance of Columbia Park off of Columbia Drive at Fruitland in Kennewick.

Police say an officer contacted 45-year old Whitaker and another man, when Whitaker ran off.

At least one officer followed, and at one point, Whitaker allegedly pulled out a gun.

That's when an officer fired shots, striking Whitaker. Medics were asked to expedite to the scene while officers administered first aid, but Whitaker died at the scene.

The officers involved in the shots fired incident have been placed on administrative leave while the Regional Special Investigative Unit investigates the shooting.

No one else was injured in the incident.

Green is left remembering her dad for the smiles that he would bring everyone around him, and the stories he would tell.

"If you start talking to my dad, he won't stop talking," Green said. "Like, he will fill your ear up. Last time I seen him he told me, I love you so much. He always tells me that. That's what I remember."
