(Olympia, WA) -- Fire season isn't here yet, but officials say now is the time to prepare your home. Officals suggest residents should create a 30-50 foot barrier between structures and vegetation if possible; that defensible space helps firefighters protect property from flames. Residents should also make sure there are no flammable items such as brush or wood piles next to homes, and clear gutters of leaves and other debris. Often times, a mere ember can catch a stack or pile on fire. Lastly, have a "Go Bag" ready in the event that evacuation becomes necessary.
