Mosquitoes in the Tri-Cities tested positive for West Nile Thursday afternoon. It is the first report of the virus in the area.

The insects tested positive for the virus at West Johnson Park in Richland according to the Benton County Mosquito Control.

Yakima County reported finding the virus last week.

According to the Washington Department of Health, 24 people tested positive for West Nile and one person died in 2015. Many of those cases came out of Benton, Franklin and Grant counties.
