Washington State Department of Health has suspended a Walla Walla home care agency's license.

Officials say the owners of Compassionate Care Inc. reportedly provided medical services, which is not under the scope of the company, failed to train staff in food handling and did not complete background checks on some employees.

The health department also said one of the owners listed herself on VA forms as a licensed registered nurse. According to the health department release, she isn’t licensed as a registered nurse in Washington, and Compassionate Care Inc. has no registered nurse on staff or available for consultation.

The company has 10 days to ask for hearing to demonstrate that it can operate safely while charges are pending. Within 28 days, it may request a hearing to contest the charges.

The health department is working with the companies clients, so they can still receive care.
