Teen arrested on murder charges in connection with Saturday’s deadly shooting in Kennewick
KENNEWICK, Wash.-- Kennewick Police say a 17-year old is in custody in connection with Saturday night's shooting on W. Bruneau Ave. that left one man dead.
According to investigators, the confrontation started when a car drove by some apartments in the area, and fired a pellet or BB gun toward the victim's residence.
"The victim in this case confronted the carload of people, and allegedly threw some rocks at that car. That car then parked and the suspects exited the car and ran towards the victim," Lt. Aaron Clem told Newsradio 610 KONA Thursday afternoon. "One of the five people that got out of the car ended up firing at least one or more than shot at the victim striking the victim."
Patrick Steven Romero, 21, died at the scene.
The vehicle containing at least 5 males fled the scene.
Police arrested Raheem Mayberry, 19, in Pasco in connection with the homicide early Sunday morning, charging him with Rendering Criminal Assistance.
In addition to the arrest of the 17-year old on first degree murder charges, officers arrested a 14-year-old male for Rendering Criminal Assistance.
Clem says it does not appear that the confrontation or the shooting were directly tied to any gang activity.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Kennewick Police Department at 509-628-0333.
