(Seattle, WA) -- A Seattle elementary school is calling off its annual Halloween parade out of concern that it marginalizes students of color who don't celebrate the holiday. The Seattle Times reports B.F. Day Elementary School in Fremont has cancelled the parade. The Seattle Public Schools District says the decision was made after some students asked permission to be isolated on campus during the parade. The district adds that Halloween celebrations are becoming less common in public schools because not everyone celebrates the holiday.
