One in custody after hours-long stand-off in Kennewick
A domestic incident in Richland led to a nearly 3-hour stand-off in Kennewick Sunday night.
Kennewick Police Officer Cory McGee says the 32-year old suspect had violated a protection order in an incident in Richland earlier Sunday.
At some point, the suspect ended up at a friend's house in the 3300 block of S. Conway Ct. in Kennewick, when Kennewick Police were called at about 5pm to do a welfare check on a man who was outside yelling into his phone.
When officers arrived, Pedro Duran ran into the friend's house, and barricaded himself inside a bathroom.
The homeowners gave officers permission to enter the home to arrest Duran, but exited the home when they learned there were weapons in the room and Duran may be able to access them.
On-duty SWAT officers were called to the scene and staged around the house, hailing to Duran to encourage him to surrender. Nearby homes were encouraged to evacuate while officers worked to resolve the situation.
Officers were able to call Duran's cell phone and encouraged him to come out of the house. Duran exited the home with his hands in the air and followed officer's instructions as he was taken into custody.
Durand vehicle was impounded by Richland Police.
He was booked into the Benton County Jail on charges of Burglary, and Violating an Order of Protection.
