One dead in Yakima shooting

Yakima police are investigating a deadly shooting that happened Friday night.

According to a press release... officers responded to a report of gunshots in the 500 block of North 4th Avenue. When they arrived, they found a Hispanic man in his late twenties who had been shot. First responders tried to revive the man, but he died at the scene.

Investigators believe the man was sitting in a vehicle outside a home when someone approached and shot him. No suspects have been identified, and police are unsure of a motive.

Yakima and Yakima County law enforcement held a community forum earlier this week to address a recent rise in violence in the city, and promised to work with the community to find solutions to the violence.

Friday night's murder is the 7th homicide Yakima Police have investigated in 2017. There were 20 murders in Yakima in 2016.
