One dead, three injured in head-on crash in Yakima County
A Wapato man faces possible vehicular charges after a head-on collision in Yakima County Friday night.
According to the Yakima County Sheriff's Office, they responded to a report of a crash in the 6700 block of Yakima Valley Highway near the Flint community just after 7pm.
First responders from the Washington State Patrol and Yakima Fire District #5 arrived to find that two vehicles had collided head on.
Investigators say a 2007 Pontiac GranPrix was speeding as it traveled east on Yakima Valley Highway, when it crossed over the center line. The vehicle crashed into an oncoming 1999 Honda Accord.
Deputies say the force of the impact pushed the Honda back towards the east about 50 feet and off of the roadway.
The driver of the Honda, identified only as a 22-year old man from the Buena area, died at the scene. A 24-year old male passenger in the car suffered severe injuries and was transported to Yakima Memorial for treatment.
The 22-year old Wapato man driving the Pontiac, along with a 17-year old male passenger from Toppenish, were also taken to the hospital. Due to the extent of his injuries, the driver was transferred to Harborview Medical Center.
Deputies say speed, alcohol and drugs were contributing factors to the crash, and charges are pending.
