Man dies after hit by train in Kennewick

Kennewick Police say a man died at the hospital after he was hit by a train early Monday morning.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe Security contacted dispatch shortly before 5 a.m. to report that one of their trains had hit Travis Lepoidevin who had been sitting on the tracks near Edison just north of Kamiakin High School. Officers say the 30-year-old was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Police say the man did not respond to sounds from the train prior to getting hit and the case is still under investigation.

The train was traveling east at about 40 miles an hour hauling approximately 60 freight cars.
