PROSSER, Wash.-- A 12-year old was arrested in Tuesday evening after Prosser Police responded to a report that the boy had a gun at the Boys and Girls Club.

According to a press release, officers contacted a 13-year old girl who confirmed that she had seen a handgun in the waistband of a male student during class at Housel Middle School towards the end of the day Tuesday. Several other witnesses corroborated the girl's story.

Officers then made contact with the 12-year old, and took him into custody.

A firearm was recovered, and police say the boy admitted having the gun at school.

Police say the boy had no intention of using the gun at school, but was carrying it for protection.

The youth was booked into the Benton Franklin Juvenile Justice Center for possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of a deadly weapon on school grounds.
