Southridge HS Originally Slated for An Indoor Pool?
Did some additional digging after seeing an interesting item on the official Southridge High School Facebook page, they shared a Throwback Tuesday post, indicating the original blueprints for the school planned for an indoor pool. It is circled in red in the image with this story. Hmmm!
These blueprints, shared by KSD on the SHS Page, show architecture designs by Hammil, Green and Abrahamson, who are a national design and architecture firm.
Sources indicate the plans for SHS were reportedly designed for another school in the Eastern US, but never built, and they were purchased by KSD. Construction started in 1995, the school opened in 1997 and had its first graduation in 1999. Because there's no indoor pool, it's presumed the blueprints were modified a bit.
We looked through the HGA web page, but could not find any 'Southridge' reference in their portfolio, but granted, it was a long time ago.
The Original Blueprints Clearly Show A Pool
These 3 plans, shared by the SHS Facebook page, show a pool in one of them. As the post on the Facebook page pondered, how different would student life be at SHS if the pool had been included in the final plan?
Currently, all the Kennewick High Schools swim and dive teams share the Kenneth Serier Memorial Pool near Kennewick High School, next to the Police Station.
