Saturday afternoon, a Marine Corps F/A-18 Hornet based out of San Diego was on a routine training mission about 55 miles Southeast of Seattle, when the plane apparently experience some sort of issue, and the pilot had to eject.

He sustained minor injuries, and the plane crashed in the forest south of Rimrock Lake.  Some campers in the area who were watching the aerial maneuvers and filming saw the plane spiral into the trees after the pilot ejected.

The Marine Corps released a statement saying they are investigating what led to the incident.  The crash alerted calls to the Yakima County Sheriff's Office, a mountain pass Deputy made contact with the pilot, he was taken to an area hospital.

The fire burned 2 acres,  into this week, crews were checking to make sure no hotspots in the location. However, nearby recreation and camping areas are closed, partly due to the fire, and to cordon off the crash scene for the investigation.

No other specifics have been released about the incident.
