Fire Danger Prompts New Washington State BLM Restrictions Before July 4
My wife and I are headed to our favorite campsite near Salem, Oregon, for our 4th of July weekend.
Fire Restrictions Expand Across BLM Lands Ahead of July 4 Weekend
One thing I can tell you is that fire season is here, and with fireworks, campfires, and such, you can run the risk of starting a wildfire.

BLM Sends Strong Warning Ahead of Busy Fourth of July Weekend
Campers don't intend to start a fire most of the time, but it only takes a spark, and once the fire is out of control, it can turn deadly and destructive.

Due to the season and fire danger, the Bureau of Land Management has implemented additional emergency closures on its public lands throughout Oregon and Washington.
Statewide fire restrictions remain in place, and officials warn that individuals responsible for starting wildfires face up to $100,000 in fines, 12 months in prison, and liability for all firefighting suppression costs.
The following items remain strictly prohibited on all BLM lands in Oregon and Washington:
- Fireworks and sky lanterns
- Exploding or metallic targets
- Tracer or incendiary devices
- Steel component ammunition (core or jacket)
I'm sure you don't want to risk a fine, and even a spark from your camp trailer can cause a wildfire.
As you head out for the 4th of July, beware of these restrictions because no one wants a fine of $100,000.
