Governor Tina Kotek’s wildfire emergency declaration includes insurance protections for Oregonians impacted by fires.  Jason Horton, with the Oregon Division of Financial Regulation, says it delays insurance company actions.

"It extends grace periods for premium payments, postponements of cancelations and non-renewals, along with relief from reporting and other required communications," Horton said.

It also requires, he added, companies to make sure policyholders can report claims.  Horton said there is help for homeowners with questions.

"If they're in one of the affected zip codes that this order protects, they should call their insurance company first and foremost, and if that becomes a dead end they should call one of our consumer advocates," Horton said.
