A good Samaritan survived after being hit by a car, falling 50 feet off a bridge into the Snake River and swam to shore.

Oregon State Patrol Troopers say on I-84 Monday morning a car lost control due to black ice on I-84 at the bridge crossing between Oregon and Idaho over the Snake River. The driver from Idaho was not hurt in the crash.

Another man from Idaho, Steven Arrasmith stopped to help the driver involved in the crash. When he got out of his jeep and was standing on the bridge a second car lost control and hit the back of Arrasmith's jeep, which hit him. The impact threw him over the rail of the bridge and he managed to hang on for a short period of time before falling 50 feet and plunging into the Snake River.

Troopers say he managed to shed some of his clothes and swam to a nearby island. That is where first responders could hear him yelling for help and were able to rescue him. He was taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The second driver who lost control was from Walla Walla and troopers say he received treatment for minor injuries.
