Deadly semi crash carrying dangerous chemicals shuts down I-90 near Cle Elum
The Washington State Patrol is investigating an accident that closed I-90 for a 22-mile stretch near Cle Elum.
One person is dead and evacuations are underway after a fiery crash between a car and a tanker truck hauling a dangerous chemical. Washington State Trooper Brian Moore says four Anhydrous Ammonia tanks fell off the semi. Only 1 of the tanks was releasing ammonia and the other three were reported stable.
As a precaution, residents up to a mile away from the crash scene were warned to close their windows and turn off the air-conditioning for protection from the fumes.
Washington State Patrol predicts the road will be closed for several hours and advise drivers take an alternate route.
