Air conditioners, fans can spark summer fires
With hot summer weather upon us, we're cranking up the AC and strategically places fans around our homes. However, fire officials say those appliances can cause problems if they overheat, or aren't working properly.
"Box fans have a shelf life. They need to be replaced every few years," said Benton County Chief Lonnie Click.
Earlier this week, a Finley man's mobile home caught fire when a faulty box fan caught fire. Fire crews quickly doused the flames at the home on E. Bryson Brown road, and no one was hurt. Clark encourages you to also check your air conditioner to make filters are clear of any debris, as that can also start a fire.
