Two arrested following high speed chase in Richland
Two people face charges after allegedly stealing items from the Richland Walmart, then leading police on a chase.
Richland Police say they responded to a shoplifting report just after 10:30 pm, when a woman ran out of the store and into a waiting SUV.
The SUV, which was later determined to be stolen, sped away with police in pursuit.
Officers tried using spike strips to stop the vehicle, and the driver appeared to try hitting an officer with the SUV.
The low-speed chase continued for several miles, and it wasn't until a West Richland Police Officer used a PIT maneuver in the area of Keene and Shockley Roads that the pursuit ended.
The driver, David Goertzen, 46, Kennewick, and passenger Kaela Lashbrook, 29, Milton-Freewater, were taken into custody.
Goertzen faces charges for possession of a stolen vehicle, 2nd degree assault, attempt to elude, and resisting arrest. Lashbrook is being held on suspicion of shoplifting.
