Motorcycle Crashed Down Steep Embankment During Busy Holiday Weekend for WSP

The 4th of July weekend kept all Washington State troopers busy, but one crash in Clallam County was another reminder of how dangerous driving impaired is.

Washington State Patrol trooper Katherine Weatherwax says District 8 alone responded to 37 collisions and arrested 21 drivers for DUI during the holiday weekend from July 3 through July 5.

Troopers Find Motorcycle and Rider Deep Below Highway

One of the most eye-catching incidents happened near Sieberts Creek in Clallam County.

Photos shared by the Washington State Patrol show a motorcycle resting at the bottom of a steep gully far below a highway overpass. A large crane was brought in to recover the wrecked bike, lifting it back up from what appears to be well over a 100-foot drop beneath the roadway.

According to WSP, the driver survived the crash but was injured and transported to a hospital for treatment.

Driver Arrested for Suspected DUI

After the crash, the driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

While investigators haven't released additional details about what led up to the motorcycle leaving the roadway, the incident was part of a holiday weekend that saw dozens of crashes across District 8.

With 37 collisions and 21 DUI arrests in just three days, troopers had their hand full during one of the busiest travel weekends of the summer.
