Fire damages Umatilla triplex, displaces six people

A fire which heavily damaged a Umatilla triplex Tuesday, left six people without a home.

East Umatilla County Rural Fire Protection District says they were called to a home off the 600 block of E Street Tuesday morning. Firefighters were able to put out the flames within five minutes of arriving but the fire still destroyed one apartment and heavily damaged the other two units.

Firefighters say the cause is under investigation but they do believe the fire was accidental.

The Red Cross says they are currently helping those who lived on the property with resources like food and clothing.
