Not “Kid-ing!” Walla Walla land cleared out by goats
We're not "Kid-ing!" A herd of goats will move through several Walla Walla acres to help mow down the overgrown land.
Ray Holes with Prescriptive Livestock Services says the over 300 goats watched by dogs and shepherds will take about 10 days to two weeks to clear out the land for new development. He says goats eat about 4-5% of their body weight.
"It is a lot cheaper than going back and replacing lines, if you went in with weed eaters you'd still have all the brush that it knocks down because it this stuff is pretty tall and of course there is several years of growth," says Holes.
The company, based out of Kennewick, has taken the goats across 5-western states for projects similar to this.
The land that is being cleared out is for the new site of the Walla Walla Town Center mall.
