Yakima County Sheriff’s Office officially launched a death investigation after finding a woman's body in a canal.

Officers say the pathologist confirmed a bullet was found in the body after an autopsy and X-Rays. Deputies have yet to identify the woman but she is described as being less than 30-years-old. She is 5 feet 5 inches tall with light to medium build and dark hair and eyes. Deputies say the autopsy suggests that the deceased was missing four upper front teeth for quite some time prior to her death.

The deceased is believed to have died sometime between November and the first week of January.

Deputies say many families have called concerned the woman may be their loved one and deputies say it will take sometime to work through all the inquires.

Yakima County Sheriff’s Office and Yakama Tribal Police Department were called to the scene Wednesday off Hwy 97 and the Marion Drain after Washington state Department of Transportation workers discovered a body. It was determined that the body was best to be removed by the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office Swift Water Team.

If anyone has information you are asked to call deputies.
