The first group of students have been selected Thursday for a new program between the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and Washington State University.

Suresh Baskaran, the PNNL Director of Research Partnerships says it will allow grad students to work alongside nationally-recognized scientists while they work on their thesis projects.

"Where we can provide them some very valuable research experiences and it also enhances our culture, if you will, of creativity and innovation, bringing in new young graduate students with new questions and ideas," says Baskaran.

He says all the students selected are attending WSU in Pullman but the program is opened to all the university branches. Once started, the graduate students will spend approximately two years at PNNL after completing their coursework.
