Extra patrols from across the region will be out in the Tri-Cities working to keep boat race weekend safe, fun and family-friendly.

Washington State Patrol says they will be out focusing on speed, DUI, distracted driving and seat belt enforcement.  Troopers will be brought in from Kennewick, Walla Walla, Grandview, and Yakima.

Troopers say the goal is to prevent serious injury and deadly crashes. The Washington State Patrol will also be using aircraft and unmarked patrol cars to conduct emphasis patrols on I-82, SR240, and SR 395 throughout the weekend.

As a reminder to drivers, the SR240 entrance to Columbia Park will be closed from 4:00 pm through 6:00 pm on both Saturday, July 30th and Sunday, July 31st, 2016. The idea is to ensure safety of everyone at the park. Cars are also reminded not to stop on SR240 to let people in and out of cars.
