The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) announced Thursday night that westbound lanes of I-84 are back open after being closed for more than a week.

The roadway was closed last week because of the Eagle Creek fire which was burning right along the highway in areas between the Cascade Locks and Hood River. Burned trees and underbrush were falling onto the roadway, and it took crews working around the clock to clear the debris. Don Thompson with ODOT says there is still a lot of work to be done.

"This is still an active fire zone," said Thompson. "There's going to be fire equipment on the road, there's going to be a lot of work going on still on those Westbound lanes. Everybody needs to keep their eyes open and be extra cautious."

The ramps on and off the interstate at the Cascade Locks is open, but no other ramps between there and Hood River are accessible yet.

There is no ETA for when the Eastbound lanes might reopen.
