Two Moses Lake Police officers were honored with "Red Cross Hometown Hero Awards" for rescuing two people from a car submerged in an irrigation ditch.

The award celebrates first responders and members of the community who go above and beyond the call of duty in a lifesaving effort.

Both Officers Nick Stewart and Kevin Hake were called to a report of a crash, where the car had rolled over into a full irrigation ditch off Road 5 NE and Road L NE. Both of the officers dove into the water, broke the car window and pulled the two people out.

One of the occupants later died from his injuries, but the other one survived. Officer Stewart and Officer Hake were awarded the Moses Lake Police Department's Medal of Honor, the departement's highest award. Another officer on the scene, Jack Dodson also received the Meritorious Conduct award from MLPD.
